Transfer Credit Evaluation Policies

Transfer applicants are welcomed at Trinity College. Approximately one-third of the new students each year are transfers. A graduate of a Bible institute or community college with a breadth of courses may wish to consider the General Studies major, an interdisciplinary program that allows entrance to advanced areas of study.

Once a student is accepted to Trinity International University, his/her transfer work will be evaluated. (Those wishing an evaluation sooner should make that request to the Admissions Office.) Transfer credit may be granted for course work from an accredited college or Bible institute. While practicing a fairly liberal transfer policy, the University reserves the right to accept only courses that are equivalent in content, objectives, and extent to those offered by Trinity. Students may receive credit for subjects not offered at Trinity but validated by the University Records Office.

Trinity College has implemented the following guidelines for accepting transfer credit from other institutions. Questions regarding these guidelines should be addressed to your admissions counselor in the Trinity College Admissions Office

  • Courses must have been taken at a nationally accredited institution, unless specific information about the institution proves its academic integrity. If you have questions on this issue, please contact your admissions counselor.
  • Only courses with a final grade of C- or better are accepted.
  • A maximum of 64 hours of credit may transfer from community colleges, e.g. two-year degree-granting institutions. All courses taken at community colleges are transferred as Trinity lower division (100-200 level).
  • The College only accepts Liberal Arts courses where the content, objectives and extent approximate courses that Trinity offers.  Remedial or vocational courses, such as typing, speed reading, auto-mechanics, drafting, etc. will not transfer to Trinity.
  • A maximum of 12 hours of applied music (except for music majors), 4 hours of drama production, 6 hours of physical education activities courses, and 8 hours of debate team participation will count toward the Trinity degree.
  • Internships must be evaluated based upon a specific course description, which includes information on the subject matter and/or work covered, hours included, and other proofs of academic rigor.  To allow Trinity to evaluate your internship credits, request the institution which awarded the credit to provide a copy of your internship contract or description to the Admissions Office.
  • Quarter units convert to semester units at the rate of 1 quarter hour = 2/3 semester hour (see Conversion policy).

To complete a transfer credit evaluation, contact the Trinity College Admissions Office. Your admissions counselor will assist you in completing your application, and will require official transcripts from each of your post-secondary institutions. Upon receiving all transcripts, the counselor will forward the transcripts to University Records. The Records Office will complete your evaluation and send a copy to you, indicating how each course will transfer to Trinity.

In addition to credits hours transferred from two-year or four-year-degree granting institutions, there are other avenues for transfer credit acceptance into Trinity.  The following are listed in the current Trinity College Catalog under "Advanced Standing:"

Advanced Placement Exams (AP)  (Policy and Equivalencies)
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)  (Policy and Equivalencies)
Competency Exams in Old Testament and New Testament
Credit by Examination (CBE)
Credits-In-Escrow
Credit for Military Basic Training
International Baccalaureate Program (IB)
Pre-High School Diploma, College-level Work
