Nondegree Programs

In addition to applying for enrollment in a degree program, the following categories are available to those not wishing to pursue a master’s degree.

For-Credit Visiting Students

Visiting Students are not enrolled in a degree program but are those who wish to take master’s courses for credit on a part-time basis. Visiting Students must submit a brief Visiting Student application, together with the application fee and an official transcript indicating that the applicant holds a bachelor’s degree.

Visiting Students may take a maximum of 9 credit hours each semester. Depending on program requirements, such courses generally apply toward program requirements should a Visiting Student later enroll in a degree program. If a Visiting Student later intends to complete a degree, application for the degree program must be made in the Admissions Office. If upon application a student is then admitted to the degree program, all program requirements in effect at that time must be met. Care must be taken in order to ensure timely completion of all residency requirements of the degree program (see program description in the catalog). Visiting Student files are deactivated after two years of inactivity.

Visiting Student status in the Doctor of Ministry program is limited to two seminars. Contact with the Professional Doctorate Office or the Admissions Office for details.

Visiting Student status in the PhD programs is not normally granted. When granted, enrollment does not imply future acceptance into a PhD program. Contact the Academic Doctoral Office or Admissions Office for details.

Non-Credit Visiting Students (Auditors)

Auditors are persons who wish to participate in one or more courses per semester but have no interest in completing course work for credit or a future degree. An auditor need not hold a bachelor’s degree, but is required to complete the Visiting Student Application (select the non-credit option). Audit fees are relatively inexpensive.

Auditors may enroll in courses during any open registration period through the first day of the class session. Audit registration is contingent upon available seating and is not final until after the first class meeting. This ensures that all credit students are first seated in a course, with remaining seats available to auditors. Some classes are closed to auditors, and the school reserves the right to limit auditors in all courses.
